The rules of Meiern
-
Game start:
The youngest, oldest, prettiest, or drunkest player goes first. They roll the two dice and cover them so no one else can see them. -
Say the number:
The player calls the number thrown (or lies and calls a different number). The higher number is counted as a ten, and the lower number as a one. For example, if a 5 and a 4 were thrown, the number is 54, not 45. -
Outbidding or lying:
The next player must roll a higher number or reveal a lie. The order of the numbers from low to high is:
31, 32, 41, 42, 43, 51, 52, 53, 54, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 21 (Meiern/Mäxchen is the highest number!). -
Believe or lie:
The player whose turn it is can believe the previous player or reveal the dice catch.-
If the number was lied , the liar must drink.
-
If the number is true , the player who revealed the roll must drink.
-
-
Lie or truth:
If the lie is believed, it must be outdone – either by a better throw or another lie!
Goal of the game:
The goal of Meiern is to quickly get rid of all your cards (throws). The last player with any cards left loses!

Tips for success at Meiern
-
Lie strategically: Always think of a number you can name before throwing the dice. If you think about it for too long, no one will believe your lie.
-
Common mistakes: Avoid numbers like “72,” which don’t exist in the game.
-
The perfect dice cup: Make sure the dice cup is sturdy and the dice don't clatter loudly – opaque cups or Tupperware containers are ideal.
